Trade the city for fresh mountain air on this 5–6 hour nature escape from Valencia to the Nacimiento del Río Palancia—the spring where one of Castellón’s main rivers begins, hidden in the Sierra de El Toro near El Toro / Bejís.
We start the experience the best way possible: with a generous brunch (or an early supper, depending on your departure time)—a relaxed moment to fuel up, meet the group, and get ready for the trail. Then it’s time for the main event: a medium-hard senderismo route through pine forests and along the river corridor, ending at the Palancia’s magical source.
What to expect
-
Meal first: a hearty brunch/supper to start the day comfortable and energized
-
Guided hike (3–4 hours total): a scenic route typically around 8–10 km with moderate elevation gain, mixing forest tracks with narrower paths as you approach the spring.
-
The “Nacimiento” moment: cool air, rock walls, and the quiet point where the Palancia emerges—perfect for photos and a well-earned break.
Highlights
-
A true “hidden Valencia Region” landscape: green ravines, clear water, and dramatic rock formations
-
A proper hiking challenge (without technical climbing), ideal for active travelers
-
Local guide support: pacing, safety, best viewpoints, and nature/history notes along the way
Difficulty & recommendations
This is moderate to medium-hard: you’ll be walking for several hours, sometimes on uneven ground and small steps near the river. Good fitness and proper hiking shoes are important. Water levels can vary by season, so the route may be adjusted for safety after heavy rain.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
